BINDER receives BG ETEM certification for successful occupational health and safety management

BINDER GmbH has been certified for its occupational health and safety management system by the Berufsgenossenschaft Energie Textil Elektro Medienerzeugnisse.

Tuttlingen: BINDER GmbH – the world's leading specialist in simulation chambers for scientific and industrial laboratories – has reached a major milestone for occupational health and safety with the successful auditing and certification of its occupational health and safety management system (AMS). The audit and certification was performed by BG ETEM (Berufsgenossenschaft Energie Textil Elektro Medienerzeugnisse). Certification was issued in accordance with OHSAS 18001 (Occupational Health and Safety Assessment Series). In use in more than 80 countries, OHSAS 18001 is one of the most important standards for occupational health and safety management systems. On Thursday, June 16, 2016, Dipl. Ing. Stefan Drodofsky, Technical Inspector for BG ETEM, formally awarded BINDER with the AMS certificate at the company headquarters in Tuttlingen. Together with Frank Wirth, Safety Officer, and Michael Leibinger, Fire Protection Officer, Jörg Nauel, Operations Manager, accepted the certificate on behalf of the BINDER management team. The aim of the occupational health and safety management system is twofold: firstly, to counteract accidents, injuries, and sicknesses during everyday work preventatively and with the support of processes; and secondly, to provide extensive protection for employee health. "Employees should come to work healthy and leave again healthy," said Jörg Nauel.

This kind of certification is relatively complex and requires a great deal of effort. In 2013, the company decided to bring the company occupational health and safety management system in line with BG ETEM specifications and has since been working meticulously to implement the various requirements. Over the course of this task, every process in the respective departments was adjusted and an extensive hazard analysis was conducted to limit danger zones. The company doctor and the works council were also involved. With this certificate, BINDER GmbH is committing itself to a continuous improvement process for occupational health and safety with regular reviews and evaluations of the required standards in the form of small annual audits and recertification every three years. Stefan Drodofsky has known BINDER since 1998. "BINDER has made tremendous progress in terms of occupational health and safety in recent years." A special thanks goes to the Safety Officer at BINDER, Frank Wirth. "He is the driving force behind the project and the right man in the right place," said Operations Manager Jörg Nauel, praising Wirth. The certification underlines the company's efforts to protect its employees from harm preventatively and for the long term by continuously improving its processes. This enables employees to take necessary measures before damage occurs. Greater health and safety in the workplace also means less employee time off for sickness or injury. Not only does this optimize occupational health and safety, it can also reduce costs. Ongoing employee training has significantly reduced the number of accidents in the workplace. "The figures confirm that our commitment to occupational health and safety is working. The subject of occupational health and safety was incorporated into our company goals in 2011. The number of accidents at work has since fallen from 10 to 4 in 2015," said Jörg Nauel in conclusion.
